Are Toxins Making You FatWe take into our bodies on average 500 more chemicals per day than our great grandparents. Think about all the pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, additives, alcohol, medications and anything you put on your skin that is synthetic. Were they all around 100 years ago?
If you can smell it you must detoxify it! If it’s foreign, our body will try to remove it and this causes an increased stress load. We have detoxification processes in the body that work full time. The primary detoxifying organ is the liver along with its friends the kidneys, skin, lungs, lymph and bowel. 100 years ago the liver only had to deal with organic substances. Today it is overworked with large numbers of toxins and stress daily including chemical, nutritional and emotional (have you ever felt liverish?) What this means is our bodies are working harder to process and eliminate garbage out of the body. How does this excess garbage manifest in the body? How does detoxification work? Let’s give you the analogy of the rubbish accumulating in your home. Phase 1 detoxification in the liver is like taking your garbage from the inside bin to the outside big green bin. This step is easy. It requires lots of nutrient in the body to get toxic waste to the next stage. Most detox programs are very good at this stage. If you have a large party and the rubbish really stacks up you have a fundamental problem. Too much rubbish and a big need for a successful phase 2. Phase 2 is getting the big green bin full of rubbish to the curbside. Seems simple? Unless you have children that forget to do their chores and don’t put it out on time. This represents the need for protein in the body to ramp up this phase of detoxification. The liver needs these essential proteins (amino acids) to action phase 2. Getting people to eat quality protein is an issue! The first 30grams of protein in a day are prioritized in the body for detoxification. A little hard when your breakfast consists of rubbish cereal, sugar and damaged milk! If this phase is slow/ inefficient then the body will hunt down amino acids within. This means muscle loss and more long-term toxicity. Phase 3 is when the rubbish truck collects your rubbish. This represents the kidneys. If you want the rubbish gone for good, drink plenty of water. Alkalize the urine and you have a recipe for success. Eating lots of green vegetables and using lemon juice - simple How many do it? – Very few do it well. 100 years ago being fat could be blamed on just wrong food, excess food and too little exercise. Today toxicity changes everything. More toxic buildup + less efficient elimination = re-circulation of toxins in the body. Since fat stores toxins you might want to check for the stuffed pillow effect fat on your body (Cellulite) A good sign toxicity is playing its game in your life. The more you store toxins the more you slow the thyroid (your metabolism controller) This means a tough road to getting or staying LEAN! Also, if your body is stressed with an overload of toxins, food intolerance and lethargy, do you think it will prioritize fat loss? Don’t think so!! Your body can also maintain or increase fat to keep up a storage facility for more incoming toxins! I like the heading “nutritional cleanse” rather than “detox program”. In my opinion most detox programs are deficient and dangerous for today’s environment. Detoxification is not a system of on or off. It’s always working and we need to concentrate on efficiency of all the pathways contributing. The simplicity of better detoxification is less rubbish going in and more rubbish going out. Starving yourself and cleaning the colon is not the plan that is going to get you on track to a leaner healthier you! Action steps to a Clean, Lean body:
There are genetic differences from person to person for detoxification of certain substances and a lot of this can be measured and worked on to improve. So make an effort to reduce toxic buildup and be vigilant excreting what should not be in your body. Happy Detoxifying! |
